“Frédéric Chopin’s Nocturnes are a lyrical and poetic world, and performers have tried a variety of approaches to them.

From the outset, it is clear that Belgian pianist Marie François imbues her interpretations of Chopin with a swaying, immensely lyrical character, achieving this with a soft, silky touch and great clarity of articulation.

Her playing is characterized by supple melodic lines and noble expression, even in the virtuoso passages. François avoids extroverted brilliance, focusing instead on intimacy and restrained yet effective emotion. With thoughtfulness, reverie, melancholy, and a hint of sadness, she offers an interpretation of Chopin’s Nocturnes that captures the essence of Romanticism, bringing the subdued compositions to sing.

Although there are countless recordings of these works, this one is technically and artistically honest. The music breathes without becoming banal and enchants without tiring.”
